As those who follow my FB pg know, StrollerPrince  got a puppy for Christmas.

Not just any puppy. A feral, rescue puppy.

Who spent much of his first week outside in his "den".

Which he made by going in the bushes by the fence, and stomping around in circles until all the grass was flat.

Here he could stay hidden, and in his mind, safe.




 I was telling the nice lady at the Vet's about it. "Oh, mine used to do that too, she said, nodding at her dog. "You don't want to encourage that "Den"  behavior. "How did you make yours stop?" I asked. She leaned in close, and whispered, "Valium." "What???" I asked, startled. "Yes, I give him Valium. It really helps his nerves", she smiled. Now, OK, I know I've been out of the doggie game for a while, but, really?

UK Made Maclaren Plaids--Marie Claire Vogue 2000, Honeybee Vogue 2001, Citrus Concorde Duo, Bug

Plaids always makes me think of Maclarens.  The perennial umbrella fave, who doesn't have a Mac or two stashed in the back of their closet? Or in my case, maybe 40! Not all at once, of course. But their relative light weight, quick fold, and one-handed steering has made them the brand I have had the most of over the years. Why so many? Well, who can resist cute patterns like these:
These three are all older models, all made in the UK.

They are the Vogue 2001 in Honeybee Black, Vogue 2000 in Marie Claire, and the Bug, (98', I think?) Their counterparts of today would be, roughly, the Ryder, Quest, and Triumph. Another reason I have/had so many Macs, is that I switch them out according to the season. The Bug for the summer, for example, Marie Claire for fall, and Honeybee Black for winter.


Next up is the Concorde Duo in Citrus, also UK made in '99, I believe. And the 2006 Techno XLR, which is definitely extra large. I can even sit comfortably in it! Although, if you compare it next to the Vogue, it doesn't look quite so huge.

A great thing about Macs is the amount of headroom they provide for an older child. You can see this clearly in these pictures. They all measure 27" from the bottom of the seat to the bottom mid-point of the canopy. I think that is the tallest I have measured.

Flashback Friday, Dreamer Design Rebound, Kool Stride Senior, Baby Jogger Performace Series

(***To give you an idea of how long ago I wrote this post, we are now up to 373 strollers! And two of these three no longer are sold. )

SQ Obstacle Course--the ORIGINAL and FIRST!

Whenever we acquire a new stroller, and we are up to 233 at this point, we take it for a "test spin" on the SQ OC. What we do is to try and mimic real-life situations that Stroller-Drivers find themselves in. So we traverse big cracked sidewalks, dirt paths, grass, gravel, wood chips, puddles, curbs, etc. Then we take it into a crowded school, noting how many children we can avoid crashing into. We try several one-handed maneuvers, including going through doorways,  to see if our wrists feel like snapping off. We also pretend as if we are holding a Latte' in one-hand, (but it is usually a diet Dr. Pepper), to see how much, if at all, it spills. Finally, we pay special attention to how much the Strollerprince is bumping around through all this, and whether he is enjoying the ride. In the past, we have had several umbrella strollers compete against each other, several toddler seat add-ons, etc. So without further ado...


HIT THE BEACH! With a 20" fixed wheel jogger, or course! Here are 3 of the most popular ones:They are: the Dreamer Design Rebound w/20" rear wheels and 16" front, the Kool Stride Senior w/ 20" rear and 16" front, and the Baby Jogger Performance Series w/ 20" wheels. I live at the beach, and the end of the boardwalk is littered with small wheeled Pegs and Gracos. Plastic swivels just can't cut it on soft sand. You need the big guns. The important thing to think about when choosing a jogger for the beach is an aluminum frame, to prevent rust, and sealed wheel bearings, to keep out the sand. Generally, big-wheeled joggers have large seats, and can effortlessly carry older, heavier children. They all fold very differently, though. And you'll probably have to pop off the rear tires for a better fit in the car.The  Kool Stride has the largest seat, but the smallest fold, since it "accordions" into itself. It also has cambered wheels for better traction.  Baby Jogger has  20" wheels all around, a one piece frame, and folds long flat.


 


The Dreamer is the biggest and heaviest of the three. It does have the very cool option of adding small front swivel wheels. There is nothing quite so lovely as strolling along the edge of the tide with your child. So take the plunge! They are only little once...

Flashback Friday, Silver Cross S4 and POP

Silver Cross

The return of Silver Cross to the US heralds an entirely new line-up, well, almost. There is the Sleep-over, which is basically your classic pram; the Linear Freeway, a smaller, swivel-wheeled pram; the 3-D,  an umbrella fold pram, the Micro V2, similar to the Micro that was here before; the Pop, a forward-facing umbrella fold, and the S-4,  Silver Cross' answer to a jogger. I am showing it here with the pistachio footmuff, which is hands down THE cosiest cosey toes I have ever seen!

 

Not only that, but it comes with an additional "apron", shown  here in black, and a raincover. Stand-out features include the canopy that pulls down to the napper bar, shocks on the wheels, (which are NOT air, so no flats and no pumping), and incredible steering, a serious two-fingered push. It glides over big cracks and bumps, and performs as well as any tir tires.                          The recline is completely flat, and makes a very plush, warm bed for baby. A fleece-lined headhugger and strap covers come with. You can unzip the top of the footmuff, and just use the bottom, fleecy part as a liner. The recline is kind of different, you push in a silver button on the side to lie it flat, and pull up on a side strap on the right to sit it up straight.There is a handbrake on the handle, which extends upward by pushing in the center button,  and a peek-a-boo window in the canopy. This is definitely a full-featured buggy, weighing in at 29 pounds.It folds by pushing up two side levers, pushing the handle forward, and tucking the wheels underneath.Other measurements are as follows:   Seat to canopy--21.5", seatback--17.5", seat depth--9", drop to footrest--8", seat width--14.5", overall width--24", overall length--32".

 

POP

 

This is Silver Cross' lightweight umbrella, for "popping in" and "popping out." It comes with a raincover, and I am showing it with an optional black footmuff, just  because I LOVE these footmuffs so much! Here it is without the footmuff, and with the legrest extended.  It has reflective piping, white stitching, and a back canopy pocket. It reclines fairly deeply with a backstrap, weighs 14.5  pounds, and is very stable--not tippy.

More measurements: Seat to canopy--25", seatback--18.5", seat depth--9" without the footest extended, 16" with the footrest extended; drop to footrest--9.5", seat width--13"; overall width--19.5", overall length--24".

It folds umbrella style, by kicking up the back side lever, then stepping down in the center. Then it self locks, with latches on both sides.

Flashback Friday! Mountain Buggy Breeze

November:

When I think of November, I think of autumn, and falling leaves. The colors that comes to mind are dark red, orange, green, and yellow. Maybe brown, too. So I'm still going with an orange theme this month, but not a spooky orange/black like Halloween. Something with orange and colors, something like the cabana stripe Mountain Buggy Breeze. It's basically a scaled down Terrain, or a mini Urban without the swivels. It still has the "beauty in simplicity" Mountain Buggy design, and the "gold standard" quality. It is rugged, but absolutely adorable! It has a nice deep recline for a young baby, done with backstraps to cut down on weight.
