Description

This recall involves Britax B-Agile, B-Agile Double and BOB Motion strollers. The single and double strollers were sold in various color schemes, including black, red, kiwi, sandstone, navy and orange. They were manufactured between March 2011 and June 2013 and have the following model numbers: U341763, U341764, U341782 and U341783 for the B-Agile strollers; U361818 or U361819 for the B-Agile Double strollers; and U391820, U391821 and U391822 for the BOB Motion strollers. The model number and the manufacture date in YYYY/MM/DD format can be found on label located on the inside of the stroller’s metal frame near the right rear wheel.

Incidents/Injuries

Britax has received eight incident reports. Incidents include one partial fingertip amputation, one broken finger and severe finger lacerations.

Remedy

Consumers should stop using the recalled strollers immediately and contact Britax to receive a free repair kit.

Britax B-Agile Review

Back to school B-Agile 

 The end of the summer and the beginning of the school year usually collide with a resounding crash. But this year, school starts so early that it is more like a Titanic-sized explosion. 

It's enough to make StrollerPrince 2.0 throw up his hands in dismay! 

But at least, we got the uniform shopping out of the way, with a big helping hand from the new Britax B-Agile!

 It's been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that is the case, then Britax is paying Baby Jogger a huge compliment, because they sure look similar.

 

They might have figured, "Why re-invent the wheel? Or maybe "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?" 

Because in all fairness, it would be very hard to beat the popularity of the City Mini. ( See my prior review of the Baby Jogger City Mini. ) SO popular, that for a long time, the supply exceeded the demand. We should all have these problems! 

But if I had to guess, I would say Britax believes they were "building a better mousetrap" with their new B-Agile. Although at first glance they look identical, they are not. The B-Agile is smaller all around. Narrower, shorter, smaller wheels, and a pound less. 

The seat is actually larger, though, if you compare the dimensions.

Both the Agile and Mini have suspension on the wheels. The foam tires, however, should not be considered a substitute for air tires.

The Agile has the most amazing harness adjustment. You unzip the back, and slide up the harness adjustor. That's it! Brilliant!

The fabric is a little softer, and more cotton-y. Preliminary reports from our Citizens of Strollerland indicate it is not as easy to clean as the slicker, shinier fabric of the Mini. We decided this problem could be solved by the addition of a stroller liner. 

  Also, our Citizens have complained of the colors. Not as snazzy as the Mini's selections. Right now, the Agile only comes in red, or black.

The big requests are for the stunning emerald green, like on the Nimble (see prior reviews), or the funky Cowmooflage. But I think the reflective trim makes for a nice contrast on the black fabric.

 By the way, all of the uniforms you saw on the lap of SP 2.0 were stuffed into the Agile's basket!

So it holds a lot, and is easy to access.

There is also an arched rear axle. That helps people with long strides from kicking the back.  Also, you can see the brake pedal on the lower right. Very easy to engage, or disengage.

The backs of the Mini and Agile are similar. Both allow you to roll up the fabric and expose the mesh back; wonder for hot days.

 Reclines are similar, and done with a pull and drawstrings.

The canopy is a little smaller, with only one peek-a-boo window, instead of the Mini's two. 

  The Mini also has a mesh pocket on the back, while the Agile has a large, fabric zippered pocket.

The handlebar has a soft, squishy foam, vs. the hard rubber of the Mini's.

The fold is quite similar, in that you yank up the center strap in the seat. But you also push in the safety button on the side.  

The Agile has an automatic lock to keep it closed when folded.

And, it even stands folded!

Like the Mini, you can get an optional rain cover,  mosquito net, cup holder, travel bag, and a snack tray that clicks right into the Agile. 

Hopefully, these comparisons will help you to decide which one will work better for you. But they are both nice, so I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose!

BABY JOGGER™ FILES SUIT AGAINST BRITAX FOR PATENT INFRINGEMENT OF THE CITY MINI STROLLER

(Richmond, Virginia) August 15, 2012 – The Baby Jogger Company, original inventor and leading manufacturer of the three wheeled jogger and all-terrain stroller, today filed a lawsuit against Britax Child Safety, Inc. (“Britax”) in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.  The suit involves Baby Jogger’s patented and proprietary Quick-Fold Technology and asserts claims against Britax for patent infringement, trade dress infringement, and unfair competition based upon Britax’s attempt to knock off one of the most popular and best designed strollers on the market, the City Mini®, a sales leader in its market segment each year since 2007.

 It was just two years ago that we showed you the Britax B-Ready. And wow, what a "blazing star" it's  become in the world of doubles. 

 

  Now Britax is hoping to create a similar explosion, with the new double B-Agile. 

Baby Jogger wins lawsuit over Britax B-Agile and BOB Motion Folds

We posted this on Facebook a while ago, but in case you didn't see it, here it is. We asked Britax and Baby Jogger for clarification, and we are awaiting their responses. We would like to know how this affects consumers--i.e. will they pull all the B-Agiles and Motions from the shelves? Start making them a different way? Continue to make them the same way but start paying BJ a licensing fee for the Quick-Fold technology? Stay tuned.....and P.S. I have reviewed all of the aforementioned models, right here, if you would like to see more pictures and info.

UPDATE: Both Baby Jogger and Britax told me that the current B-Agiles and BOB Motions will not be pulled from the shelves, and they will continue to be manufactured. It is not clear exactly what will be changed on them...whether they will continue to employ the use of the "Quick-Fold" technology and pay BJ a licensing fee, or whether they will change the way the strollers fold. I will continue to update this, as I receive more information.
UPDATE #2: Britax just told me this: “This will not impact our future business in any way and we will continue to manufacture and sell the BRITAX B-Agile and BOB Motion strollers.  Business as usual.  We are pleased with the outcome.”
Since both parties have agreed not to discuss specific details, we still don't know what changes the models will have to undergo, or when they will be implemented. Also, some of our Strollerland members are wondering if Graco will be next, since some of their models employ a very similar "Quick-Fold."
